Open Day Lecture at BAS: Christopher Dell — The Urban

As part of Open Day at the Bergen School of Architecture (BAS), Christopher Dell, Professor KTF / Prof. Dr. phil. habil. and theorist in urban design and architecture at BAS, will give the lecture The Urban.

Abstract: Past eras believed they knew what a city was. The planning systems that arose from this belief even assumed they knew what a truly good city was. Today, however, we no longer have this certainty. But this loss could turn out to be a gain. By no longer clinging to the city as an external object, we can re-examine what the city means to us against the backdrop of our own concrete, contemporary experiences of urban dwelling, living and working. We are the city. We help shape it through our everyday as a form of life. We cannot stay out of the urban space. We make it. What one might call the urban condition then, presents an opportunity to try out new forms of action with others as a city. And that means nothing less than that the city as an object must now be understood as a process of “the urban”.
