Beauty, neuroscience and that elusive feeling of life in the built form

With so many important matters to consider when taking on an architecture project, the way it ends up feeling when it’s built is often neglected. But what would happen if the experience of a place were to be a central consideration in its design? Is there a reliable approach for designing places that would feel alive and uplifting? Would it still allow for the other design considerations to be included and ensure the project’s success?

Bio: Or Ettlinger, Ph.D. Arch., is a theorist, educator and practitioner at the intersection of architecture, art, design, and digital media. He is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Ljubljana, a former Associated Member of the Image Knowledge Gestaltung Interdisciplinary Laboratory of the Humboldt University of Berlin, and a Visiting Professor at the Building Beauty international post-graduate architecture program at the Sant’Anna Institute in Sorrento, Italy. His current interests are the experience and neuroscience of the creative process, the development of interdisciplinary practices and methodologies of creativity, and the study and creation of beauty in architecture and the arts.
