Introduction

A POSTHUMAN NOTION OF THE GARDEN & PHENOMENOLGY OF MOURNING

The sound of a highway is said to remind us of waves breaking ashore in the far distance, but like a viscous fog, a feeling of sadness, anger and guilt makes an eerie and unexpected appearance every time we turn on our engines…
Through an embodied spatial practice my diploma projects become transformed into a construction site that investigate the notion of climate grief as an emotional response to a planetary crisis that is currently haunting our lives. The projects seek out to set aside optimism and action in favor for containers and collective bodies of grief where process of mourning and the act of letting go can serve as an invitation to take a step back and generate room for a pause that can give us the ability to reflect and rethink our position in the world.

With sketches and backdrops the projects dwells on our current state and sets out to enter a dialog with the potential of becoming – a becoming that points towards alternative futures beyond regeneration that can cultivate a humble and nurturing human presence on earth, generate a human nonhuman awareness and engage in a stronger environmental empathy.
