ERASMUS+

ERASMUS+ is the largest programme for collaboration within education in Europe. Erasmus+ is financed by EU, and there are many different areas in the program. For you as a student it provides an opportunity to receive scholarship for studies and internship abroad. For study you can choose one of the partner schools of BAS.

Erasmus Charter

In order to participate in the Erasmus + programme, BAS has to apply for an Erasmus Charter. This is a quality framework for the activities within the Erasmus+ programme. The Charter contains a number of principles that BAS is commited to. The Charter also includes a number of specific obligations that the institutions have towards the participants before, during, and after a mobility. BAS is also obliged to inform student that are undertaking mobility activity about the Erasmus+ Student Charter. This documents gives information about the rights and duties of the Erasmus+ student. Here you can read the English version

Erasmus Policy Statement

Another important document is the Erasmus Policy Statement of BAS, that describes the strategy of the institution to fulfill the obligations in the Erasmus charter. The Erasmus Policy Statment of BAS is closely connect to our strategyplan for the period 2015-2025 where we confirm the following action to reach the goal of establishing and further develop international relations.

“Participate in student exchange, international course collaborations, and in international fora to strengthen an international orientation that places our education in a global perspective. Both exchange, mobility and good collaborations with other schools are important elements for students, teachers and courses.“

Mobility period for all – inclusion and equality  

A mobility stay should be for everyone, regardless of background and prerequisites. BAS is obliged to make arrangements so that also those with fewer opportunities get the chance to go abroad. That is why we have created a Strategy for Inclusion and Equality in Erasmus+ and International Mobility.

A person with fewer opportunities is defined in this context as “people who, for economic, social, cultural, geographical or health reasons, because of their immigrant background, or for reasons such as disability or educational difficulties or for other reasons, including a reason that may give grounds for discrimination under Article 21 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union, face obstacles that prevent them from having effective access to opportunities under the programme” [9]

People who fall under one of the categories below may be entitled to additional grants from Erasmus+.

  • have a disability or chronic illness
  • have children under the age of 18
  • have refugee status
  • first-generation student (no longer possible from the academic year 2025/26)
  • belonging to the indigenous population and national minorities

Erasmus+ APP

As a student on Erasmus+ exchange, you should download the Erasmus+ App that will guide you through your journey so that you can benefit the most from you stay abraod. The App is availalbe at Google Play store (for Android) and on Apple Store (for iOS).

Erasmus Student Network

ESN is a student organization for Erasmusstudents. Many universities in Europe have their local ESN-group, and they often have a social program for international students. have a look at the website of ESN for more information

Benefits

  • You will receive a scholarship of between 470-530 euro per month. (the amount will differ depending on the cost of living in the country your travelling to) In additon you can get top-up for internship (150 euro), and if you belong to a category with fewer opportunities, meaning with refugee status, you have under-aged children, or you have a chronic illness or disability, or you belong to the indigenous people of Norway, or one of the national minority group – then you get 250 euro extra. More info on that below .
  • the application process is more straightforward since BAS has exchange agreements with these schools.
  • you do not pay tuition fee at the host university, but instead regular school fee to BAS while on exchange.
  • You will often receive assistance in finding housing from the host university.
  • You mobility stay is approved in advance as part of your degree at BAS, provided that you pass your required credits.

Important information before, during and after your Erasmus stay.

It is very important that you read the Privacy Policy for Erasmus+ Mobility (KA131) at BAS. This document provides, among other things, contact information, the purpose of data processing, legal basis, data storage, and your rights in the mobility process.

Since the Erasmus+ funds come from the EU, all processing of personal data related to mobility projects must comply with GDPR. BAS must obtain your Consent to use your personal data in the mobility application process. You will provide this consent by checking the box when you apply internally at BAS for an exchange opportunity.

All students at BAS are allowed to go on exchange after completing the 3rd year at BAS. One can choose to go on exchange for one or two semesters as part of your degree at BAS. You can also have Erasmus+ scholarship for both studies and internship, but please note that is is only study mobility that can be integrated into your degree. Read more about internship in the menue below. You can receive erasmus+ support for a total of 12 months, independent wether or not it is study or internship. Minimum length is 2 months for both types of mobility.

Look up countries and institutions that BAS has agreements with , and contact international coordinator at BAS for more information. (adm@bas.org). Every autumn we arrange information meeting with the 3rd year students about exchange, and we ask the incoming exchange studetns to present their schools. We also ask returning exchange students that have been on exchange to do the same upon retun to BAS. Please note that we have many school presentations and reports from exchange that you can have a look at by contacing the administration at BAS. A large part of your job is to find out which country and school that could be of interest for you as your exchange destination.

Open Access

For Erasmus students who travel for a study or internship, it is voluntary to take a language test before traveling on exchange. The test will measure the linguistic and professional benefits of an exchange stay. This test can often be attached when the host university asks for documentation of language skills.

This is how you take the language test:

The test is called Placement test and there is available tests in all 24 EU-languages. You need to register and then follow these steps:

  1. Go to EU-Academy and logg in:  https://academy.europa.eu/
  2. In search field “What do you want to learn today“, enter “Placement test“
  3. Select and click on your language test
  4. On the next page, click “Enroll” (yellow box to the right)
  5. Then click “Attempt quiz now“
  6. The test will normally take 30 – 45 minutes.
  7. After answeing all questions, click “Finish attempt“
  8. Overview of results. The last page will give you your language level and you may download the result.

ONLINE LEARNING AGREEMENT

Alle Erasmus-studentar må ha ein Learning Agreement eller læringsavtale, før dei drar på utveksling. Denne skal signerast av studenten, BAS og vertsuniversitetet. Dette er ein føresetnad for å få Erasmus stipend.

BAS brukar Online Learning Agreement (OLA), som vert signert digitalt av alle parter.  Nokre skular krev at du fyller ut deira eige skjema for learning agreement som del av søknaden om utveksling. Har dei ikkje eit eige skjema, kan du bruke OLA som utgangspunkt. Du kan då laste ned pdf og sende med søknaden.  Då slepp du å gjere dobbelt arbeid.

  • Du må sjølv opprette ein Online Learning Agreement her. NB! Du må bruke Chrome, Edge eller Firefox (ikkje Internet Explorer)
  • Du logger Google, merk at du må registrere deg første gangen du logger på.
  • Du må fylle ut alle felt før du signerer OLA. Vi har laga ei detaljert brukarveiledning som kan vere til god hjelp med dette, og vi tilrår sterkt å laste den ned.
  • Til dømes må du sjølv finne emnar/kurs ved vertsuniversitetet. Deretter signerer du digitalt.
  • Når du har signert, blir din OLA sendt til BAS (Sending Institution)
  • Dersom alt er ok, signerer BAS din OLA, og den sendast videre til vertsuniversitetet (Receiving Institution) for den siste signaturen.

Du får beskjed på e-post og/eller i Erasmus+ App’en når ein part har signert. Du kan også logge på Online Learning Agreement eller sjå Erasmus+ App’en for å sjekke status i undervegs prosessen.

Pdf-versjon av OLA?

  • Du kan laste ned ein PDF-versjon av Online Learning Agreement dersom vertsuniversitetet ønskjer ein papirversjon. Denne kan sjølvsagt også signerast på papir om nødvendig.
  • Dersom du ikkje får vertsuniversitetet sin signatur på Online Learning Agreement (OLA) før du reiser, kan du likevel få Erasmus-stipendet så lenge du sjølv og BAS har signert. Då må du sørge for at vertsuniversitetet signerer din OLA så snart semesteret startar og den må vere signert av alle tre partar seinast to veker etter semesterstart.
  • Dersom vertsuniversitetet ikkje kan signere online og ønskjer ein papirkopi, kan du skrive ut ein PDF av Online Learning Agreement. I så fall må du sende ein (skanna) kopi signert av alle tre partar tilbake til BAS.

 

Dokumentasjon på utvekslingsopphaldet: Vertsuniversitetet må stadfeste datoan du har vore på utveksling ved å fylle ut og signere Certificate of Departure. (del 2 av det du fekk signert då du ankom)

Online survey/spørreundersøkelse: Når utvekslingsopphaldet ditt er ferdig, vil du få tilsendt ein epost frå Erasmus+ med ei lenke til ein online surevy/spørreundersøkelse. Denne er obligatorisk å gjere. Send ein epost til BAS når du har gjort det. I tillegg får du ein kortfatta intern BAS rapportmal som du må fylle ut og sende tilbake til oss.

Sluttutbetaling: Når alle desse tinga er fullført, kan du få overført dine siste 20% av stipendet ditt.

Transcript of Record: Få karakterutskrift frå vertsinsitusjonen som du sender til BAS. Dette vil vere avgjerande for endeleg godkjenning inn i graden din på BAS. BAS kan ikkje overprøve resultat frå andre skular, så dersom du stryker på fag på utveksling vil ikkje det bli godkjent på BAS: Normalt krev vi 30 ECTS studiepoeng per semester, dvs 60 ECTS for 2 semester. Nokre skular, særleg der undervisningsspråket er anna enn engelsk, vil seie at realistisk studiebelastning er mindre for utvekslingsstudentar. Dette må avklaras før, eller seinast undervegs i utvekslingsopphaldet ditt. Ta kontakt med BAS om dette syner seg å vere tilfelle.

Portefolio: Du må vere førebudd på å lage portefolio frå studia dine i utlandet som del av det du viser når du tar avsluttande diplomaeksamen på BAS. Vi krev ikkje portefolio som del av godkjenning av Erasmusopphald, men du må lage det før du tar diplomeksamen.

Presentasjon: BAS kjem til å be deg om å halde ein presentasjon av utvekslingsopphaldet ditt etter at du kjem tilbake til BAS for vidare studier. Det kan og vere aktuelt å delta på Internasjonal dag.  Vi ynskjer og at du skal vere tilgjengelig for å bli kontakta av studentar som vurdere utvekslings i tilfelle dei har spørsmål.

Students with reduced functional ability or chronic illnesses often do not have the same opportunities as others to participate in exchange activities.

All educational institutions that participate in Erasmus+ have undertaken to make arrangements for people with special needs or who have a functional impairment.

Contact the head of studies or the Erasmus coordinator if you think this may apply to you. It may be possible to get an additional grant of 250 euros per month. And that we can possibly apply for an inclusion grant if you need special extra accommodation. Then we at BAS can apply for extra funds from our national office that can cover documented extra expenses linked to exchange. The need must be documented through a doctor’s certificate or similar.

It is very important that you read emergency preparedness information before you go on an exchange

PREPAREDNESS AND SAFETY:
Remember good travel insurance and possibly contents insurance. If you are European citizen, remember to bring your European Health Insurance Card with you. You must inform BAS of your address where you will be living abroad. If you are a foreign citizen, on a temporarily residence permit in Norway, you need to check what will happen to your social security and health rights if you leave Norway.
You are covered for health care when you are in Norway, but if you want the same when you go abroad, you might have to apply for extended rights to HELFO, the Norwegian governments health care system.
We have attached a template for an application, you need to fill in the right details for you.
IF you don’t have extended right from Norway while on exchange, you will have to buy private health insurance, unless the school where you go have an offer for foreign students. This is something you need to check with the school where you are going.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs   would like all Norwegians staying abroad to register: https://www.reiseregistrering.no/  You should download the APP Reiseklar.

Sjømannskirken also has an emergency app that can be downloaded by everyone. Here is all the information for local emergency services, embassies, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (link to travel registration, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs), insurance companies and more. This is available without a network. If you have a network, you can also search where you are on a map, find your way to the nearest embassy and more.

Very useful, no matter where you may be in the world, and on what errand. Search for Sjømannskirken in the APP Store, red and white logo, called EMERGENCY NUMBER.

Orient yourself and in BAS ‘contingency plan, especially the part that goes on stays abroad.
